Chandigarh, November 20, 2016: The 2nd Panjab University(PU) Book Fair concluded at AC Joshi Library, PU today.
The book fair was organized by AC Joshi Library from 16th to 20th Nov., 2016 at the ground in front of the Library. More than 30 reputed national and international Publishers and Distributors participated in the event, displaying
their latest stock.
The PU Controller of Examination and Dean College Development Council, Dr.Parvinder Singh presided over the Valedictory Function today. All the representatives of the firms gave a positive feedback and also made some suggestions; however, they also extended full support for the PU Book Fair to be an annual event.
More than 1,000 students and book lovers visited the PU Book Fair every day.
The five day Book Fair was inaugurated by the worthy Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, on 16th Nov 2016 at 11 AM with release of tricolor balloons. A special grant has been released to all the
departments for purchase of books from the Book Fair pertaining to their subjects.
Blood donation van of PGI was stationed at the venue to encourage voluntary blood donation and about 30 people donated blood. All the five days of Book Fair were studded with literary, socio-cultural programs involving luminaries drawn from diverse fields. Author interactive session was held and a book titled Jokhim bhara samay hai by Madhav Kaushik published by Aadhar Prakashan was released by Chandigarh Sahitya Academy. Talks by PGI doctors on healthy way of living, drug de addiction etc. were the highlights of the several events during the Book Fair. Sh. BD Kalia Hamdam, President Ehsaas Adabi Society, Panchkula, delivered an interesting and inspiring talk on the topic “Literature as a way of life.” Students participated
enthusiastically in the platform that was provided for them to showcase their talent in singing, poetry, skit etc.
A workshop was conducted by the Indian Council of Astrological Science during the fair where the visitors were provided free consultation for Palmistry, Tarrot cards reading, astrology etc. NGOs like Dhyan Foundation, Osho etc. also delivered talks. There was also a talk by Parvesh Chandel an upcoming young author.
