55th Annual Athletic Meet at GNDEC

Ludhiana February 26, 2015: Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana organised a two day 55th Annual Athletic Meet which was inaugurated on 26th February, 2015.

 

The 2-day event radiated the spirit of competition among the participating athletes on the first day. The event was graced by veritable dazzle of guest- former Olympian Ajay Raj Singh (D.S.P. Jagraon) with Director GNDEC, Dr.Manohar Singh Saini. They set the ball in motion by hoisting the flag and releasing bunch of balloons into the sky. The event began with march-past by all the departments of the college.

 

In his inaugural address, the guests emphasized the importance of games & sports in bringing out the hidden talent by developing the spirit of Cooperation, discipline, tolerance and the quality of leadership besides physical fitness which are very important in the modern era of Competition. 

 

This was followed by the torchbearers run and the sports flame was set ablaze. The sports students of the college, who excelled in various national, state and inter-university championships in various games and sports events during this academic session, lit the torch and took oath to compete with a sense of sportsmanship. The enthusiasm and vigor of athletes was evidently visible. 

 

Dr. Gunjan Bhardwaj, Sec. Sports read out the College Sports Report and highlighted the glorious achievements of the sports students of the college. The prizes were given away to the winners of the PTU inter-university competitions. The students of Dance Department presented the Punjabi Folk Dance “Bhangra” which was highly applauded by all. 

 

Later the programme was followed by many athletic events like 1500 mt (boys), 100 mt race (girls), 400 mt. (girls), 100 mt hurdles (girls). Some of the results are as under:
