78th Kila Raipur Games/ 95 Bullock carts blaze though four-lane track at Grewal Sports Stadium

Kila Raipur (Ludhiana), January 31, 2014: Ninety Five Bullock carts blazed though the four-lane track at the Grewal Sports Stadium, to set the momentum of the games in high orbit. It’s a first as the event grows in proportion year on year.

The morning fog and low visibility did not dampen the spirit of the participants and audience alike. With Hockey, Athletics, Racing Grey Hounds, Bullock cart races interspersed with Bhangra performances and Baazigar feats, the atmosphere was at its best.

The four-lane bullock cart race was a grand finale to the day's proceedings which included track events, hockey matches and freak circus events besides a mingling of Punjabi bhangra and Gidha.

Fastest boy (primary) of the meet was Fariyad Khan from Kila Raipur, in the 100 m dash. Noor Mohammed (Kila Raipur) and Karanjot Singh (Pakhowal) were 2^nd and 3^rd. The fastest girl in 100-metre under 19 was Manvir Kaur of Patiala finished ahead of Amandeep Kaur of Jallandhar and Poonam Mehta of Hoshiarpur. Under-19 boys in 100 m finished with Ranjit Singh (Hoshiarpur) leading Maninderdeep Singh of Jallandhar and Amritpal Singh of Jallandhar to chest the tape.

400 m girls U-19, Pushpa from Delhi eclipsed Sharanjit Kaur of Gurdaspur and Sandeep Kaur of Patiala to with the 1^st prize.

The sports extravaganza was inaugurated by Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, PWD Minister Punjab. He announced that all the approach roads to Kila Raipur will be renovated and reconditioned. He announced a grant of rupees two lakh for the Grewal Sports Association.

 In Bhagwant Memorial Hockey Gold Cup Jarkhar academy beat Govt College Ludhiana: 4-2. In the women’s section Badal Hockey Academy beat KAiron Hockey Academy by 5-1.

The 6-a-side U-17, hockey played on the synthetic turf, Grewal Academy beat Bhatinda by 8 goals to 1 (8-1). Adesh scored a hat trick for the winners. In the 2^nd match Baba Bakala Hockey Academy beat Kila Rairpur School by 9-6. Malwa school Ludhiana got the better of Ghavadi scoring 8 goals against the hapless side (scoring nil). Lovepreet scored 3 goals for the winners.

The quality of brands that associate itself with the Rural Olympics, adds a different sheen to the games. Maruti Suzuki for the 6^th time and New Holland for the 2^nd time in a row, showcase the importance marketers bestow on this opportunity. Punjab Tourism is associated with this event now for 3 years and the event definitely one of the high points for tourists who visit Punjab
