Point out that Congress promise is for all farmers, AAP promise only for few
Chandigarh, October 21, 2016: The Punjab Congress has laughed away as `pathetic’ the Aam Aadmi Party’s desperate gimmick to replicate the success of its farm debt waiver campaign, saying the move by Arvind Kejriwal’s party was a futile attempt to match the Congress promise.
Unlike the Congress debt waiver campaign, which was aimed at all the debt-ridden farmers in the state, AAP’s farm manifesto promises waiver of debt for only poor farmers and farm labourers, as well as loans of SCs and BCs. For the rest, only interest on farm loans would be waived off, as per the manifesto promise of AAP, the PPCC leaders pointed out.
In a blatant attempt to copy the Punjab Congress `Karza Kudki Khatam, Fasal Di Poori Rakam’ initiative, AAP claims to have launched a similar campaign to capture loan and other relevant details of farmers in Punjab. Dismissing the move as pitiable and a sign of sheer despair, the Punjab Congress leaders said AAP could not befool the people of Punjab with such gimmickry.
In a statement issued here, the Punjab Congress leaders dismissed the AAP move as a last-ditch effort to gain some ground in the poll-bound state, which is in the grip of a major Congress wave. PPCC leaders Gurjit Aujla, Gurdev Singh Lapran, Lakhvir Singh Lakha said in the statement that while trying to copy the Congress campaign in letter AAP seemed to have completely ignored the spirit of the same.
The fact that AAP, while launching its farm debt waiver campaign, chose to remain mum on its expanse and reach shows that the party is trying to mislead the people of the state by giving a wrong impression on the programme impact. “They seem to be happy conveying the impression that their campaign is on the lines of the Congress campaign, when the fact is that it is actually not even remotely on the same scale,” said the PPCC leaders.
The Congress leaders pointed out that both AAP and the Shiromani Akali Dal seemed to be in a state of panic following the unmatched success of the Punjab Congress debt waiver campaign, led by Captain Amarinder Singh. The PPCC president’s Kisan Yatra roadshow earlier this week had met with extraordinary response from farmers in all the areas he went to. Captain Amarinder’s mandi meetings were charged with euphoria as men and women came out in large numbers to sign the debt waiver proforma of the Congress.
The PPCC leaders further pointed out that the resounding success of Captain Amarinder’s roadshow had struck a severe blow to AAP’s and SAD’s charges that the Congress was trying to defraud the farmers through its debt waiver programme. The frustration of SAD is visible in the reactions of its leaders, who are resorting to all kinds of senseless tactics to defame Captain Amarinder, the statement pointed out, referring to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s demand that the PPCC president should sign affidavits on his promise to waive off farm loans.
“Captain Amarinder does not need to sign any affidavits to prove his credibility, the people of Punjab trust him and know that if he has made a promise he will keep it at all costs,” said the PPCC leaders.
