Ludhiana, February 16, 2013: Human right activists from various districts across Punjab under the banner of Association for Democratic Rights (AFDR) Punjab staged a protest here on Saturday, against hanging of Afzal Guru who was hanged till death on February 9 for attacking on the Parliament.
Protestors assembled near the statue of the martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha (Bhai Bala Chowk), held a rally and then took out a protest march upto the deputy commissioner’s office.
Addressing the protestors, the AFDR’s general secretary Prof. Jagmohan Singh, Ludhiana District President Prof. AK Maleri, press secretary Buta Singh and others including Narbhinder Singh and Pritpal Singh said the Afzal’s family should have been informed prior to the hanging.
Terming it a great violation of the human rights, they added it was also a violation of the human rights that Afzal’s body had been not been handed over to his family members after the hanging.
