Anurag Thakur reelected as Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association president

Dharamshala, January 21, 2017: The AGM meeting of Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association held on January 21, 2017 at HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala to elect the office bearers and EC members for a 4 year term. According to Mohit Sud ,PRO HP Olympic Association, Mr.Nirwan Mukherjee Observer from IOA, NP Gulleria, Hockey Coach, DYSSO and Ratan Lal Thakur, Observer Himachal Pradesh Government Sports Council were present. Surat Singh Thakur was unanimously elected as the returning officer to conduct the elections.

The following were elected to the various post of the HPOA

· President: Sh. Anurag Thakur (Hon .Member of Parliament)

· Senior Vice-President: Sh. Virender Kanwar (Hon . MLA)

· Vice President: Sh. DD Thakur

· Vice President:Sh. Anil Sharma (Hon. Cabinet Minister Govt of H.P)

· Vice President: Sh. Sukh Ram Chaudhary

· General Secretary: Sh. Rajesh Bhandari

· Treasurer: Sh. Ajay Sood

· Joint Secretary: Sh. IshwarRohal

· Joint Secretary: Sh. Ramesh Chauhan

Sud said that the newly elected body and members deliberated extensively on how to improve the quality of sports in the state which has an immense pool of talent but is not doing well due to the lack of quality infrastructure and a concrete policy for the development of the same . The house decided to have a blueprint for the same with the help of experts and studying the models followed by other states which would be pursued with the government and other stake holders to be implemented.

The newly elected association decided-

1) To have a Himachal Olympic bhawan at Shimla the capital of the state for better coordination and communication between the associations and the sportspersons , the land for the same would be asked on lease from the government and developed by the HPOA .This bhawan would also have facilities for indoor games and other related infrastructure .

2) To organize the state Olympic festival on the lines of the national games at Hamirpur (Anurag’s constituency H Q) from the 23rd till the 26th of june 2017 where all the games and affiliated units would participate.

Anurag Thakur, thanked the observers and the members present for their precious time and to ensure a free fair election , also urged them to work harder for the betterment of sports in the state as they have been doing and also assured them that he is fully committed and devoted to the cause and would give all if efforts required in this direction .
