ARREST: CBI arrests 3 persons in connection with violence in Assam

Jalandhar, January 9, 2013: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three accused persons in a case related to violence in certain places of Assam.

The arrested accused persons are being produced today in the Court of CJM, Bongaigaon (Assam).

According to the  CBI  Spokesperson CBI had registered this case on August 10, 2012 on the allegations in connection with lynching of four youths by a mob at Joypur, Kokrajhar (Assam) on July 20, 2012.

A chargesheet was earlier filed by CBI against 7 accused persons in this case in the Court of CJM, Bongaigaon, Assam on November 7, 2012.  During further investigation, 17 more persons, including three aforementioned, have been arrested.

CBI had taken up investigation of seven cases including the instant one relating to incidents of ethnic violence in certain places of Assam on the request of the Government of Assam and further notification from Government of India.  These cases were earlier registered by Assam Police
