Chandigarh, October 30, 2013: In a bid to perpetuate the rich legacy of country’s spiritual ambassador Swami Vivekanand, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Dr Charnjeet Singh Atwal today exhorted all the MLAs to propagate his teachings and philosophy across the state especially amongst the youth.

Presiding over a function to mark the 150th birth anniversary functions of Swami Vivekanand organised at the Punjab Assembly by the Swami Vivekanand Samaroh Samiti here today, Dr. Atwal said that Swami Ji was a great spiritual leader who always gave preference to the rich culture of the country than the religion. He said that the need of the hour was to perpetuate the rich legacy of Swami Vivekanand by spreading his message of love, communal harmony and brotherhood amongst the people.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that Swami Vivekanand was a great visionary who enlightened the souls of Indian youth through his philosophy. He assured the members of the organizing committee that the state government would extend full cooperation to them in spreading the message of this distinguished philosopher. The Deputy Chief Minister also said that starting from January 16, 2014 the state government was organising a series of functions to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand besides making all out efforts to perpetuate his rich legacy amongst the youth. "State government will make concerted efforts to pay glorious tributes to this legendary icon of youth who propagated the message of universal brotherhood, goodwill, peace, harmony and amity through the ethos of religious tolerance and mutual trust across the globe", added Badal.

Throwing light on the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekanand, a member of Swami Vivekanand Samiti Alka Gauri said that Swami Ji had termed Punjab as a sacred land, which has always safeguarded the honour and unity of the country by making immense sacrifices. She also impressed upon all the MLAs to extend fulsome support and cooperation to them for propagating the message of Swami Vivekanand.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Cabinet Ministers Bikram Singh Majithia, Chunni Lal Bhagat, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Surjit Singh Rakhra and Anil Joshi, BJP Punjab president Kamal Sharma besides several MLAs of SAD-BJP alliance. www.cityairnews.com
