Jalandhar, December 5, 2017: A record breaking number of 1000 plus old students including prominent educationists, sportspersons, scientists and Scholars, gathered and relived their past for a gloriously colourful evening in the campus of Lyallpur Khalsa College on the occasion of the annual S.Balbir Singh Alumni meet. This particular ground breaking edition of the Alumni meet was organized on the occasion of 79th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Babir Singh, former member parliament and former president of College Governing Council and also an alumnus of the college. A noted alumnus of the college, Former Captain of the Indian Hockey Team and MLA from Jalandhar Cantt Constituency, S. Pargat Singh came as the special chief guest for this momentous occasion. The president of the College Governing Council Sardarni Balbir Kaur and College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers. The president of the College Governing Council Sardarni Balbir Kaur welcomed all the guests and said that the institution has always been proud of its alumnus who have carried the values and ethos imbibed in by the college which they have further taken to the national and international level. Speaking on the occasion, College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra said that the institution owed a lot to the visionary guidance of Sardar Balbir Singh for its current status and it was his initiative for the college that laid the foundation for the juggernaut that the college enjoys today.
This was followed by an impressive cultural program by the former students of the college, now serving the institution as staff members in various departments, through presentations such as Songs, Ghazals, Skit, Bhangra, Gidha, Group Dance and Poetry recitation. Special Verses on the theme of the college and on the life of Late S. Balbir Singh were also read out by S. Rachpal Singh Pal and Prof. Manjinder Singh Johal.
Other notable alumni of the college occupying distance Geographical Locations also participated in the event via Audio-Video techniques. Special participation messages reliving their golden days spent in the college were sent in and shared with the audiences by Prominent Punjabi Singer Sarabjit Cheema (from Canada), Harjinder Singh Bolina, Dr. Amrinder Singh, Madhu Sudan Kapoor Principal Engineering Manager, Microsoft, CEO Himani Kapoor from USA, Kamaljit Singh from Austria, Neelu from Canada, Mehak Kandhari from Pune and Chief Bureau of Zee Punjabi Jagtar Singh Bhullar.
Prof. Sanjeev Anand, Corodinator of the Alumni Association formally thanked the assembled guests. The stage was conducted by Prof. Gopal Singh Buttar. Among distinguished people present were S. Jaspal Singh Waraich Joint Secretary, S. Avtar Singh Kang, S. Jagdeep Singh Shergill, S. Swaran Singh Cheema and S. Pritam Singh Narangpur ex-chairman of the Punjab NRI Sabha along with the other staff members of the college.
