Battle lines drawn in Ferozepur for Assembly Elections

Ferozepur, January 2, 2017: Battle lines have been drawn in Ferozepur for the upcoming Assembly Elections and three major parties have announced their candidates except Ferozepur (Urban). In Ferozepur (Urban) constituency, it is Congress’s Parminder Singh Pinki, sitting MLA from Ferozepur (U) v/s Narinder Singh Sandha from Aam Aadmi Party while Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), due to internal strives, has failed to finalize any name. The main contenders from BJP in this constituency can be two time MLA and Ex-CPS Sukhpal Singh Nannu and Gurparvej Singh Shaila, a young advocate belonging to Guruharsahai.

In Ferozepur (Rural) the battle is between Sitting SAD MLA Joginder Singh Jindu v/s Satkar Kaur Gehri of Congress and AAP nominee Mohan Singh Phallianwala. Last time, in a thrilling finish, Jindu had beaten Gehri with a difference of 162 votes only. This time the battle is expected to be more exciting since old war horse, two time MP from Ferozepur, Dr. Mohan Singh Phallianwalal is also in fray.

In Guruharsahai, the battle is between sitting MLA of Congress, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, SAD Candidate Vardev Singh Mann alias Noni Mann and AAP candidate Malkit Singh Thind. While Rana Sodhi has won this seat consectively three times (in 2002,2007 and 2012), Vardev Mann is desperate to win this election as he had a very close fight with Sodhi last time. AAP candidate Malkit Thind is a doctor by profession and is contesting his first major election.

In Zira, it’s the battle between an old war horse and a new youngster. Hari Singh Zira (75) and Kulbir Singh Zira (35) will be fighting from this constituency from SAD and Congress respectively. While Hari Singh is a veteran and four time MLA, Kulbir Singh is the son of Inderjit Singh Zira, another stalwart leader of Zira reason. AAP candidate Gurpreet Singh Gora is a novice and belong to Akali family.
