Blind inmate waiting for appointment letter in Education Department as Tabla Player

Ferozeur, August 12, 2012: Vinod Kumar, an inmate of Home for the Blinds, Ferozepur is waiting for the appointment letter for the post of Tabla Player in Education Department.

Hailing from Sant Kabir Nagar district in Uttar Pardesh, Vinod Kumar did his Matric from Ferozepur in 2008 and Plus Two in 2010 from Punjab School Education Board, Mohali, while he was at Patiala in Amar Ashram, which did not allow staying in the Ashram to the deserving students for higher education.  He shifted to Home for the Blinds at Ferozepur and is now pursuing his graduation in second year.  He had also to his credit the five years’ diploma in Visharat from Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandra.

Talking to this correspondent, he said in a very dishearten tone that his seniority in the merit list prepared at the time of selection for the post of Tabla Player in Education Department in June 2012, was at serial number 11 against the 14 posts, 10 for candidates with hundred per cent blindness and 4 for partially blind.  In the final selection, 9 candidates were selected who totally blind and 5 partially blind.

But fortunately about one and a half month back  two totally blind candidates have resigned creating a post for Vinod Kumar. One Joginder Singh of Jalandhar has resigned from the post as he has been selected  for the regular Class IV post whereas the existing post is against three years contract and second Narinder Singh of Ludhiana, who has been selected against Vocal Music Teacher as he had applied for this post also on the basis of his higher qualification of BA BEd.

Though Vinod Kumar is hopeful to get the appointment letter, yet he feels that despite Right to Service Act, the services being rendered by the Punjab Government offices are not up to the mark and satisfaction of the public man, like me. “In my own case, the process of giving me appointment letter by accepting the resignation of a candidate senior to me, could have been dealt with simultaneously”, he added.
