Ludhiana, October 16, 2012: Gujranwala Gurunanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Ludhiana, in association with Salaam Zindagi Foundation, an NGO working for welfare of thallassemic children organised a blood donation camp at GGNIMT here today.
The team led by Dr. Amarjeet Kaur and Dr Sonia Singla, Professor & Head , Department of Blood Transfusion, DMC&H , Ludhiana were able to collect 141 Units of Blood from the institute for the thallassemic children.
Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria, Mayor, Ludhiana inaugurated the Blood donation camp by himself donating the blood. This noble act by the mayor motivated many students and faculty members of the institute to donate blood. He appreciated the consistently work done by Salaam Zindagi Foundation to provide blood and blood transfusion expanses to the poor and needy thallasaemic children.
Manjit Saini, President, Salaam Zindagi Foundation said that it was the 61st blood donation camp organised by this foundation and he also mentioned that it is for the first time that a celebrity had inaugurated the camp by voluntarily donating blood himself. He exhorted that the kind gesture shown by the Mayor would be a motivating force for the commoners’ towards the noble cause of blood donation.
Prof Gunwant Singh Dua, Coordinator, GGNIMT congratulated the staff and students for donating blood and making the camp successful. While talking to the media he said that such camps should be organised every year to generate awareness and donate for a good cause. He further said that such act of goodness may help to keep the youth away from social evils.
On the occasion, Gohalwaria was honored by Gursharan Singh Narula, General Secretary , Gujranwala Gurunanak Educational Council(GKEC) and Kulwant Singh Dhukhiya, former municipal councillor.
Bhagwan Singh, Chief Patron of NGO was also honored for his act of service towards humanity by Kuldip Singh , Director , GGNIMT and Principal Dr. P. S. Khattra.
Mandeep Rawat, V.K Bhanot, Labh Singh, B.S Nagi, Anurag, Rohish and Suraj Sharma, Balkar, Manoj Gautam, Sandeep Surjan, G S Puri, Vikas Prashar and Jagpreet were among those present.
