Jalandhar, December 19, 2012:  The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Amudalavalasa, District Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from the complainant.

A case was registered on December18, 2012 against an Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Amudalavalasa, Srikakulam District, for allegedly demanding a bribe amount of Rs. 50,000 from the complainant for settlement of Postal Life Insurance claim of his late father. 

The complainant has alleged that his father, while working as Extra Departmental Mail Deliverer in Chuguruvalasa Branch Post Office, subscribed to Postal Life Insurance in April, 2007 and was expired  in January, 2008.

 The Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Amudalavalasa, Srikakulam District has allegedly demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 50,000 from the complainant  for settlement of Postal Life Insurance Claim of his father.  The complainant expressed his inability to pay bribe of Rs. 50,000 as the total claim would be only around Rs. 1,00,000 and requested him to reduce the bribe amount. 

The accused informed the complainant that the approval of Post Master General, Visakhapatnam for Rs. 1,07,325 has been received and asked him to take his mother to the office and collect the claim amount  after paying bribe amount of Rs. 50,000. The  complainant was not willing to pay bribe and lodged a complaint with CBI, Visakhapatnam.

CBI registered a case and laid trap. The accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs.50,000  from the complainant.

The arrested accused is being  produced today before the Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatna.
