Chennai, November 6, 2015: CavinKare Ability Awards 2016, celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities in their fields of expertise.  The call for nominations for 2016 is now out.

The CavinKare Ability Awards are jointly organized by the FMCG giant CavinKare and the national cross disability NGO Ability Foundation. Introduced in the year 2003, these awards aim at creating awareness on the latent talents of people with disabilities, showcasing their achievements and challenging stereotypical perceptions.

And now, nominations are invited for the 14th CavinKare Ability Awards 2016.The completed nomination forms must reach Ability Foundation on or before November 27, 2015.  The presentation of the awards will take place in February 2016 at Chennai.

CavinKare Ability Awards comprise a total of four awards, which are given in recognition of personal triumphs and achievements in the face of adversity and hardship. The awards salute the spirit of triumph against all odds – a looking beyond one’s own self and one’s physical limitations and celebrate the universality of human rights.

These prestigious awards come in two categories: CavinKare Ability Award for Eminence and the CavinKare Ability Mastery Awards.  However, nominations can be made for any one category only.

CavinKare Ability Award for Eminence: This is a single award given to just one person with disability, salutes the exemplary achievement of the person who has not only overcome great odds but has also contributed significantly to society by initiating an organisation of his/her own. The award carries a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs.

CavinKare Ability Mastery Awards: These are three awards given to three individuals with disability in recognition of their extraordinary achievement in any field of their choice – be it arts, film, medicine, science, industry, technology, education, community development, human rights, sports or more. The awards carry a citation, a trophy, and a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, each.

Process of selection: The selection process begins with advertisements calling for nominations. Any Indian national who has a disability (as per the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995) and has done exceptional work in his/her chosen field is eligible to apply. The nominations are short-listed and on-site visits then made for an in-depth understanding. Based on this, the eminent jury selects the recipients.
