CBI signs MoU with NLSIU for establishment of CBI Chair in Law Enforcement

New Delhi/ Jalandhar, October 31, 2013: To engage in research in all mutually agreed areas of law enforcement including criminal procedure, anti-corruption laws, laws and procedures relating to investigation, prosecution and trial, the CBI today entered into a MoU with the National Law School of India University(NLSIU).
The objective of the MoU is to consistently engage in research in research in all mutually agreed areas of law enforcement, including criminal procedure, anti corruption laws, laws & procedures relating to investigation, prosecution, trial etc. The MoU envisages to build and maintain an updated knowledge data base in criminal law for use by CBI in specific and other criminal investigating agencies; devise strategies, overall legal and policy environment to combat the menace of corruption; to build a think tank for CBI’s activities in the area of law and enforcement; to develop suitable ‘training module’ and ‘training programme’ in the areas of relevance for CBI with law base or inter-disciplinary subjects. The MoU proposes to strengthen the working capacity and build an enabling environment for the CBI.
Speaking on the occasion, Director, CBI  Ranjit Sinha said that that the ‘CBI Chair in Law Enforcement’  envisioned in the MOU will contribute to upgrading the training content on investigation & prosecution, undertake research in law enforcement areas and devise strategies to strengthen the overall legal and policy environment to combat corruption & crime.
Dr. R. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor who signed the MoU on behalf National Law School of India University, Bangalore said that synergy of the two Institutions will help evolving a learning process which will mutually be beneficial to both Institutions.
K. Saleem Ali, Special Director, CBI said that this MoU with NLSIU will help in making ‘CBI more vibrant and active”.
The MoU between CBI and NLSIU, Bangalore was signed today by Ranjit Sinha, Director, CBI and Prof.(Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor, National Law School  of India University, Bangalore in a function at the CBI Headquarters, New Delhi.
The function was attended by senior officers of the CBI, including Shri Anil Sinha, Special Director, CBI;  R.K. Dutta, Additional Director CBI, and, (Dr.) O.V.Nandimath, Registrar, NLSIU.
The National Law School of India University, Bangalore is the premier Law Institution in the country with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India is the ex-Officio Chancellor.
