Chandigarh News- ‘Ravan of Ramlila’ pledges to expose ‘Real Life Ravans’ & Promote Human Rights of Girls

Chandigarh, September 21, 2013: On the occasion of International Peace Day, as a curtain raiser event of upcoming 8th International Youth Peace Fest (IYPF 2013), a special event was organised to promote “safety for girls” by Yuvsatta, KB DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector 7-B and Dr G C Mishra Memorial Educational & Charitable Trust at KB DAV-7 School campus here today.
Sunil Sharma, a photo journalist, with blood donations of 57 times to his credit and who is also a Bravery Award winner plus playing the role of Ravan in Ramlila Committee, Parade Ground of Sector 17 for the last 33 years, dressed as RAVAN took a pledge in front of beautifully dressed girls of the KB DAV School to start working to expose real life RAVANS in all nook and corners of our society, who indulge in all kinds of crimes and violence against women and girls. He also announced that he will motivate more and more young people to join the cause and make Chandigarh a ‘Women friendly City’.
Madhu Bahl, Principal of KB DAV-7B and co-organizer of this year’s International Youth Peace Fest shared that atrocities and rampant crime against women and girls of all ages are increasing not only in India but almost in all parts of the world. So promoting human rights and dignity of girls is an important theme of this year’s IYPF 2013, besides three other important issues of green living, peace and volunteering.
Giving information about the initiative Bikram Singh Rana, State Liaison officer of State Cell of NSS explained that this year’s International Youth Peace Fest in which NSS is also an active partner, will start from World Tourism Day i.e. September 27 and will conclude on October 2, 2013 which is international Day of nonviolence and Gandhi Jayanti. He added that Yuvsatta volunteers who’re annually organizing this event had called young change makers in age group of 18-24 from over 50 countries. And the main event will be organised this year at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh.
Main aim of the International Youth Peace Fest is to promote the rights of girls, spirit of nonviolence, volunteering and care for environment in the people, especially in the generation next.
