CII condole demise of Brij Mohan Munjal

Ludhiana, November 3, 2015: Chairman emeritus of Hero MotoCorp, Shri Brijmohan Lall Munjal, passed away at New Delhi on Sunday. Mr Munjal survived by his wife Mrs.Santosh Munjal and children Mr Suman Kant Munjal, Mr. Pawan Kant Munjal and Mr.Sunil Kant Munjal. He stepped down from active role in Hero Moto Corp earlier in June this year, however he was active on the board of the company as Non Executive Member.

Mr B M Munjal was born in 1923 in un-partitioned Punjab, Mr Munjal along with his three brothers — Mr O P Munjal, Mr Dayanand Munjal and Mr Satyanand Munjal, started a bicycle spare parts business in Amritsar in 1944 and later relocated to Ludhiana.

Mr Neeraj Satija, Chiarman, CII Ludhiana, said that “ Mr  BM Munjal established the world’s single largest motorcycle manufacturing firm Hero MotoCorp.  He led Hero Group to a number of firsts. Hero MotoCorp is the world’s largest two-wheeler company now for the 14th year in a row. Another group company, Hero Cycles, has been the largest manufacturer of bicycles since 1986”.

Mr. Munjal also led the Hero group to form a joint venture with Japan based Honda Motor company in 1984. Beside Hero Group. He also helped in establishing numerous medical, educational and infrastructure facilities. Amongst his achievements one of the most notable contributions to Ludhiana has been Ludhiana Stock Exchange, Ludhiana Aviation Club, Ludhiana Management Association(LMA)  and the Dayanand Medical College & Hospital”.  It has been a great loss to society as Mr. Munjal was a great human being, Mr. Satija added.

Mr S S Bhogal, Chairman, CII Punjab  said that, “ Shri B M Munjal was a tall leader and a wonderful human being. He will always be remembered for his contribution towards the society, industry and also for growth of the Indian economy. We at CII, Ludhiana have lost a doyen & a guiding force in passing away of Shri. B.M. Munjal, he was a father figure for all of us,  who gave us leadership and confidence in India. At CII, we have had the privilege and honor of his deep involvement and stewardship. He was  President of CII during the year 1988-89”.
