Ludhiana, August 13, 2015: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) expressed deep shock and condolences at the sad demise of Mr.Om Prakash Munjal, founder & Chairman, Hero Cycles Ltd today at Ludhiana. He was 86. Mr O P Munjal is also known as the father of the cycle industry, played a very important role in establishing Hero Group one of the most trusted and prominent group in Indian industry. 
 
Hero Cycles started in the year 1956. During its first year, less than 700 bicycles were produced by the company and  in 1986, Hero Cycles registered a Gunniess Book of world record as the world's largest manufacturer of bicycles.
 
Mr O P Munjal is very well known for his philanthropic activities of running various schools, and hospitals and is also well admired for his rich poetic disposition and flair for cultural and literary activities and known for patronizing upcoming talents in these fields. He is also known as a promoter of Urdu language through his Shers and Mushairas published in various journals, magazines and company’s annual diaries.
 
Expressing his heartfelt loss on the passing of Mr. O P Munjal, Mr S S Bhogal, Chairman, CII Punjab State Council said, “He was truly a visionary leader and a pioneer of Indian bicycle & engineering industry, who realized the great need for Indian industry   to be competitive and proactive both at domestic & international level”.
 
"A tall leader and a wonderful human being Mr. Munjal will always be remembered for his contribution toward Indian bicycle industry & for the growth of Indian economy", said Mr. Neeraj Satija, Chairman, CII Ludhiana.
 
Entire Industry from all across the country has expressed its sadness on the demise of Mr. O P Munjal.
