CIIPP Panjab University celebrated World IP Day at ICSSR Complex

Chandigarh, April 24, 2017: IPR Cell, Centre for Industry Institute Partnership Programme (CIIPP), Panjab University celebrated the World Intellectual Property (IP) Day jointly organized in collaboration with the Patent Information Centre, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh. The honorary Director of CIIPP Prof. Sanjeev Puri apprised the participants and delegates regarding the theme of the event “Innovation: Improving lives”. It was graced by the the Chief Guest Prof. S. S. Marwaha, former CEO, Punjab Biotechnology Incubator & Director (Biotechnology)-PSCST, who gave a keynote address on the current and upcoming IP patents and IPRs. He shared with the participants his experiences about taking challenges and staying focused to the research so that it ends up in a product benefit to the society. He Emphasized that academics now has now to progress along with industry. A stronger interface between the two is the need of the hour. He encouraged the youngsters take up challenges and excitement of research by setting up startups and be successful entrepreneur. Prof. Praveen Rishi, Dean Science faculty discussed the various issue of IP and need for having IP. The meeting was attended by more than 100 delegates and senior faculty of University including, Prof. R.K.Tuli, Prof. Rupinder Tiwari and Prof. S.K.Mehta. A special lecture including a workshop was held to the packed audience on Intellectual Property fundamentals and IP patent laws by Mrs Shalini Jain, an IPR and IB consultant from Noida. The organizers also honored with the various faculty and students with Appreciation certificates and awards to all those who were granted patents and extended consultancy and brought industrial projects to Panjab University. The award winners were faculty members and students of UIPS, UIET, Food technology, Microbiology, Political
Science, Microbial Technology, Chemistry, and Physics departments. The event ended with the suggestion from various stakeholders to develop policies for further strengthening Industry academia interface at Panjab University.
