Shimla, May 25, 2017: While addressing the annual function of Kullu Students Welfare Association here today, Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh said that he was pained to learn that few students from one of the student’s organisation, pasted smudged posters against the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, which did not behove to educated youth. He directed that such people should be identified and strict action be taken against them.

He said freedom of speech and expression did not mean to insult and abuse others. Those indulged in such activities should have known the actual meaning of freedom. Such miscreants were few in number who try to spoil the academic atmosphere, he said adding that firstly they should be made to understand and if they don’t realize, they be dealt with sternly. He said institution gets a bad name by such acts of nuisance. In past, many cases of mishandling the teachers and clashes within the students had been witnessed, which was not good for the University as well as the State, he said.

The Chief Minister said he was often criticised by the Opposition for opening too many educational institutions in the state which was surprising when Himachal Pradesh had been adjudged as the best big State in education . He said that it seems that the BJP leaders were afraid that the people of the state, especially the youth, would become more educated and aware and would well understand their cheap political modus-operandi of divide and rule.

Raising concern over the vacant posts in schools in far-flung and remote areas, he said that though many posts of teachers had been filled, yet he receives complaints of vacancies in such areas. He cautioned the teachers not to always keep managing their postings but rather they should be ready to go serve and educate the children in remote and far off belts of the State.

He announced a sum of Rs 50,000 to the Kullu Students Welfare Association.

Earlier, President of the Kullu Students Association, Shri Dharminder Thakur welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion.

Chairman APMC, Kullu, Shri Upendar Kant Mishr also announced to give Rs 21,000 to the organisation.

MLA Shri Khoob Ram and acting Vice-Chancellor, H.P. University Shri R. S. Chauhan were also present on the occasion amongst others.
