CMC Radiation Oncologist awarded Fellowship

Ludhiana, August 28, 2012: Dr Pamela Alice Jeyaraj MD, Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology at Christian Medical College, Ludhiana was awarded the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India Travel Fellowship for the year 2012.

Dr Pamela Jeyaraj spent four weeks at the department of Radiation Oncology of Mayo clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. She worked with some of the leading international experts in the field of Radiation Oncology.

During her stay at Mayo clinic she focused on the various newer treatment modalities in breast, colon and head and neck cancer. She was able to do a short clinical research at Mayo clinic.

She also attended the International Palliative Care Fellowship meeting organized Dr James Cleary at Madison, Wisconsin, USA, who is the Director of Palliative Care, Pain and Policy of World Health Organization.   

On her way back she spent a brief time visiting at a Palliative Care Hospice and Royal Princess Hospital, Sussex, United Kingdom. Besides Radiation Oncology, Dr Pamela has a keen interest in Palliative care.

She also looks after patients who need palliative care at CMC. Earlier during her career Dr Pamela received overseas training in both Radiation Oncology and Palliative care at Brisbane, Australia from 2004 to 2007.

Dr Pamela Jeyaraj is confident that she would be able to implement some of the treatment techniques that she has observed and learnt during her short fellowship program.

Dr Pamela Jeyaraj expressed her gratitude to Dr Abraham G Thomas, Director, CMCH for his continued support and encouragement.  

Dr Kanwal Masih, Medical Superintendent stated that the department of Radiation Oncology has the state of the art linear accelerator to treat patients with different cancers.
