Ludhiana, August 11, 2017: Medical Council of India, Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana organized the First Convocation for Advance Course in Medical Education on Friday.
Dr.V.P. Mishra, Chairman, Academic Committee, MCI was the Chief Guest while Dr.Abraham G Thomas, Director, CMC was the Guest of Honour. A total of 29 participants qualified for the certificates which were given at the hands of Dr.V.P.Mishra.
Welcoming the Chief Guest Dr. Abraham G Thomas, Director, CMC, Ludhiana informed the audience about the pivotal role of CMC in faculty development since last 50 years. He also thanked Dr. V.P. Mishra and MCI for reposing faith in CMC to lead this programme. The faculty of the programme Dr. Dinesh Badyal, Dr. JugeshChhatwal, Dr. GagandeepKwatra, Dr. Monika Sharma, Dr. Bharti Uppal, Dr. Sheena Singh and Dr. Aroma Oberoi were also present.
Dr. V. P. Mishra while addressing the participants underlined the importance of good teaching practices for producing good doctors. He also stated that a competency based curriculum is going to be implemented in the country and the teachers trained through this programme will be the change agents to ensure the change in the way medical students are currently taught and examined.
Advance course in Medical Education is a faculty development programme initiated by the Medical Council of India and is delivered through 10 Nodal Centers in the country. Christian Medical College, Ludhiana was pioneering in training the faculty of other nodal centers in 2014. Each nodal center enrolls 25 teachers from a group of 40 to 50 colleges allocated to it. The participants undergo 2 contact sessions 6 months apart and 2 spells of online learning of 6 months each.Dr. Tejinder Singh, Acting Principal, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana is the National Convener of the programme.
