DEATH OF PUNJABI YOUTH IN MALAYSIA: NRI Commission seeks report from Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs

Chandigarh, February 27, 2013: The NRI Commission today sought report from Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs on or before March 8, 2013 regarding the action taken for sending the body of Punjabi youth to India, who was died in Malaysia.

A spokesman of the NRI Commission today said that Punjabi youth Sunny resident of Labour Colony, Amritsar had gone to Malaysia about two and half years back to earn a livelihood but unfortunately he was died on February 13, 2013 in Malaysia.

He said that the deceased’s family has taken the matter with the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian High Commissioner in New Delhi, who informed that the body of Sunny would be sent back only after receiving the postmortem report which may take around two week’s time.

He said that the Commission has asked the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to intimate what action has been taken in this regard to the Commission on or before March 8, 2013.
