New Delhi, April 10, 2017: DHL Express, the world’s leading international express services provider, in association with SaveLIFE Foundation, has announced the launch of ‘Jeevan Rakshak’ in Delhi – a training program to equip Delhi Police’s Police Control Room (PCR) personnel with live-saving skills. The program will train over 1,000 Delhi PCR personnel in techniques of Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), enabling them to assist those injured in road crashes with promptness and skill.

As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Delhi records one of the highest road crash deaths in the country, with more than 1,300 fatalities and over 7,000 serious injuries in 2015 alone. In most road crash instances, the Delhi PCR vans are the first to reach the incident and provide assistance to the victims. Hence, equipping them with skills to provide timely care will make a significant difference to the number of lives that can be saved.

Commenting on this initiative, Mr. R. S. Subramanian, Senior Vice President & Country Manager, DHL Express India, said “Road safety is a critical aspect of our lives. At DHL we pay utmost attention to how we operate on the roads not only in India, but also across the globe. We are proud to be able to partner with SaveLIFE Foundation to equip the police force in Delhi with relevant skill sets that can save lives during the ‘Golden hour’.”

Under the ‘Jeevan Rakshak’ program, DHL and SaveLIFE Foundation have trained over 2,000 police personnel in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Telangana and Delhi in the last two years.

Explaining the significance of this training, Saji Cherian, Director, Operations of SaveLIFE Foundation said, “This training will enable the Delhi Police personnel to become even more effective first-responders, leading to a reduction in mortality on our roads. While the Police are often the first at the scene of a road crash and play a crucial role in saving the lives of road crash victims during the golden hour, a lack of basic trauma life support skills often aggravates injuries while transporting the victims.”

During the training program, PCR personnel will be taught techniques in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), bleeding control, spine immobilization and how to react in scenarios such as bomb blasts, choking, and heart attacks. This will enable them to be better equipped to stabilize the injured while the ambulance arrives or when they are en route to the hospital.
