DISTRICT LEVEL ACTION TEAMS TO BE FORMED TO STOP STUBBLE BURNING

Ludhiana, April 4, 2017: Following the directions by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Punjab Government, district level action teams will be formed to keep strict vigil on stubble burning after harvesting of wheat crop, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradeep Aggarwal while stating that strict action will be taken against the violations according to the law.

Aggarwal further said that the teams which have been formed include officials of Revenue department, Police, Agriculture Departments and Punjab Pollution Control Board. These teams will keep strict vigil to make sure that no farmer burns stubble after the harvesting of crop.

Further Aggarwal said that this time NGT is also keeping strict vigil on stubble burning through satellite. An SMS alert will be sent to concerned team automatically after getting picture of any such activity. Teams will rush to the spot immediately and strict action will be taken against the violators.

Aggarwal said that stubble burning is an offence which not only pollute the environment but also spoil the fertile soil. He appealed to the farmers that it should be our moral duty to provide safe environment to the coming generations.

Further Aggarwal said that strict action will also be taken against the officials, if they failed to perform their duty.
