Theme of the Symposium to be "Promoting E-Learning for Police Training"
New Delhi, March 22, 2017: The Two-day 35th National Symposium of Heads of Police Training Institutions would be inaugurated here tomorrow. The Symposium is being organised by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Dr.Kiran Bedi, Lt.Governor, Puducherry will deliver the Inaugural Address on the occasion. In keeping with the contemporary and future policing needs of the country, the central theme of the Training Symposium will be "Promoting E-Learning for Police Training".

Shri Parvez Hayat, Addl. Director General, BPR&D briefed media here today on the Symposium. He said that nowadays, people are having a lot of expectations from the police to perform and police is also facing lot of challenges arising out of emerging crimes such as cyber crime and other issues. He said that the National Symposium is being held in view of sharing the best practices of training that will be helpful in meeting these challenges. He said that BPR&D acts as a platform between Centre and states to share best practices with each other. Briefing the media, Ms. S. Sundari Nanda, Director (Trg.) said that this is the second time the Symposium is being held in Delhi. She said that BPR&D identifies the gaps in training and coordinates with the state Governments to conduct training programmes.

The Symposium will have various session including sessions on ‘Challenges in Teaching Technology to Adult Learners’, ‘Successful E-Learning projects’ and ‘Government funded resources available for E- Learning’. In the Symposium, more than 100 senior police officers of the rank of DGPs/ADGPs/IGPs of states, UTs, CBI, NIA, BSF, CRPF, other Para Military Forces and Central Police are expected to discuss and deliberate on police training issues to develop a roadmap to achieve excellence in training. On the second day of the Symposium (24th March), Justice Madan Lokur, Supreme Court of India will deliver the Valedictory address.

The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) has been organizing the National Symposium of Heads of Police Training Institutions annually to discuss and deliberate on police training issues to achieve excellence in training. In the Training Symposium, policies and practices are re-visited to improve the training to all ranks of police officers across the country.

BPR&D is making efforts to bring in fresh perspectives on training content and methodologies from educational institutions of international repute such as central universities, IIMs, IITs, National Law Universities, Government organizations, corporate sector, police training institutions and other related organizations. Subject experts from various organisations including National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), MDI Gurugram, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), RML Hospital, National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), MHA, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will also take part in the Training Symposium.

The Bureau of Police Training & Development (BPR&D), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is the apex body at the national level to promote excellence and best values in policing. The objective of BPR&D is to equip the Indian Police to meet the challenges of the increasing diversity of crimes on the one hand and the rising public expectations on the other. This is sought to be achieved through training, research and modernisation of the police forces.
