ECI ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR AMRITSAR LOK SABHA BYE-ELECTION

BYE-ELECTION TO BE HELD ON FEBRUARY 4, 2017
Chandigarh January 6, 2017: The Election Commission of India today announced the schedule for Amritsar Lok Sabha Bye-Poll. The polling would be held on February 4, 2017 (Saturday).
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the ECI said that the date of issuance of gazette notification would be January 11, 2017(Wednesday), last date of nomination would be held on January 18, 2017(Wednesday). Date of scrutiny of nomination would be at January 19, 2017 (Thursday) while last date of withdrawal of candidature would be on January 21, 2017(Saturday). The polling to the Amritsar Bye Poll would be held on February 4, 2017(Saturday). The spokesman also said that the counting would be done on March 11, 2017(Saturday).
Adding further the spokesman said that the commission has already decided that the voter's identification has been made mandatory in the bye-elections at the time of poll. Electoral Photo Identity Cards would be the main document of voter's identification. Making it clear, he said that in the absence of EPIC, no voter will be deprived of the voting rights if the voter's name figures in the Electoral Rolls, separate instructions would be issued to allow additional documents for identification of voters at the time of poll in the bye-election, he added.
The Model Code of Conduct has been come into force with immediate effect in Districts in which the whole or any part of the Parliamentary Constituency going for bye- election is included. The Model code of conduct would be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the State Government.
