Ludhiana, January 23, 2014: EcoSikh has announced the appointment of Ranjodh Singh as the Convener of EcoSikh in Punjab. In the last three years, Ranjodh Singh has played a key role in initiating a dialogue with various sections of the society of Punjab for EcoSikh.

Dr Rajwant Singh, EcoSikh President in Washington, said, “We are delighted to have Ranjodh Singh join our team in Punjab. He has contributed immensely to the betterment of Punjab and the community through his multifarious engagements in a number of forums. Not only he is a successful industrialist, he is also well known for his philanthropy. His work in the field of education and the preservation of art is also widely respected. His relationship with a number of organisations and his networking is would be an asset to EcoSikh in Punjab. His passion for the environment and appreciation and preservation of nature coincides with our mission in Punjab and in India."

While commenting on being appointed as Punjab Convener, Ranjodh Singh, said, “I am humbled by the trust and confidence shown by EcoSikh in me. I will try my best to fulfill the expectations by the organisation and will push to achieve its objectives in Punjab. This initiative is very much needed in Punjab where we are facing so many environmental challenges. This land's future is dependent on our actions and it is important that all citizens of this state share the responsibility to preserve the sustainability of Punjab' land, water, and air."

According to EcoSikh, Ranjodh Singh, as Punjab Convener, would be able to launch and push the greening of Gurdwaras via the ‘Green Gurdwara’ Programme in Punjab and other historical Gurdwaras of India with the cooperation and support by various Sikh bodies. This initiative aims to make the gurdwara buildings and ceremonies environmentally friendly where air, water and land are cared for.  Singh will also be able to push environment initiatives within the industrial hubs of Punjab.

With the strong business bonds in the automotive industry, Ranjodh Singh has contributed in providing educational institutions to the society especially to the weaker sections. He has also published a few spiritual coffee table books and taken pride in publishing pictorial books on the Sikh historical sites of Pakistan and India to showcase his brilliance in photography and love for art. His family has been deeply involved in the construction (Kar sewa) of Ramgharia Bungas and many other Gurdwara buildings.

EcoSikh is a four year old organisation which connects Sikhs with environmental activism formed by Sikh values and beliefs propounded by the Sikh Founders. It has become a worldwide phenomenon with two staff members working full time to engage Sikhs in India and in the Diaspora on the issue of nature preservation. Its initiatives and programmes have been endorsed by major Sikh organisations and the Akal Takhat.
