Five days training programme on Scientific Goat farming at GADVASU on Oct 17-21

Ludhiana, October 15, 2016: Department of Veterinary and Animal husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana is going to organise specialised training programme on Goat farming from October 17 to 21 with the motto “Scientific Goat farming - the need of the hour for sustainable livelihood”.
Dr. Rajesh Kasrija and Dr Jaswinder Singh, Training Coordinators, said that in this training programme deliberations on nutritional and health management, effective first aid management, vaccination, deworming, breed improvement, value addition of milk and meat products, reproductive and seasonal management will be delivered by subject matter experts.
Trainees will be imparted theoretical as well as practical know how of goat farming and will be having hands on practice on recording basic vital parameters like rectal temperature, respiration rate and restrain of animals. They will be trained to differentiate between healthy and diseased animals.
Dr S K Kansal, Prof cum Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension education informed that Veterinary University is also organizing training programme on dairy/piggery/poultry farming. These training programme are vital for successfully running a livestock enterprises, which is the need of the hour.
Dr. H. K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU said that diversification of livestock sector is moving at a very fast pace, wherein, the veterinary university is always working to improve the socio- economic status of the livestock owners by providing them with recent inputs. Goat farming can play an essential role for providing self employment to rural youth, women and marginal farmers.
Dr Verma added that Goat farming is a very profitable venture and is easy to manage for beginners. Goat farmers’ association is also working effectively under the aegis of Veterinary University. A monthly meeting of this association is held on first Friday of every month in the University. Veterinary university also publishes books and magazines for livestock farmers in Punjabi, Hindi and English.
