FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS BAG NATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS

Ludhiana, May 26, 2017: Mr.C.Lalmuanpuia and Mr Mudasir Yaqoob pursuing Ph.D in food Science & Technology have been shortlisted for the award of fellowship for the year 2017-18, under the scheme of Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students during financial year 2016-17. Mr.C.Lalmuanpuia will work on ‘Development of extruded products from glutinous rice(Oryza sativa var. glutinosa)’. The work will be done under the supervision of Dr. Baljit Singh, Senior Baking Technologist, Department of Food Science & Technology. The expected research output of this study will be useful to produce optimized product with distinct and improved properties from traditional varieties of rice.

Mr. Mudasir Yaqoob will work on ‘Extraction and Utilization of Phytochemicals from Peel, Pomace & Leaf of Kinnow (Citrus reticulata.L)’. The project will be supervised by Dr. Poonam A. Sachdev, Head, Department of Food Science & Technology. In this research the extraction will be done using non conventional techniques like Ultrasonication and Supercritical fluid extraction. The expected output of this study will be useful to utilize the waste from kinnow to create functional foods with Nutraceutical properties.
