Talwandi Sabo, November 21, 2017: An International conference on “Recent Innovations in Science, Agriculture, Engineering and Management” was held at Guru Kashi University today, wherein more than 600 research papers were submitted by scientists from across 9 countries. The focus remained on cost on various subjects effective & eco- friendly technologies, which could uplift the livelihood and living standard of the masses.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr.Lt.Col.GPI Singh, VC, Adesh University, Bathinda who said that although science in various forms has led to the useable technologies that have impacted society in various ways, in many cases such as Green Revolution, Development of pesticides like DDT, Atomic energy devices, etc there have been some negative fallout, which he said should be focused.
Dr. Singh said that in the contemporary society, depleting soil health and underground water the problems like infertility, depression, genetically disorders in newly born, pollution of environment, soil, water and air depleting the soil health and underground water, ill effects of non-degradability of plastic, tolerance of pests, pathogens to drugs, pesticides are common. He called scientists to develop collaborative groups to tackle the emerging problems. The James Mc Gill Prof. Shiv O Prashar from Montreal expressed concern about the prevailing high incidence of Cancer in South West Punjab. He emphasized on the formation of international working group to ascertain the probable causes, and taking up awareness campaign.
Sharing the presidium, Prof. Suleman (Nigeria), Prof. Himanshu Batra (Google), Dr. Rakesh Thakur (Punjab University), Miss. Ankita Kumar (Corporate World) highlighted that the technological development should generate its impact on society, utilize the democratic dividend , instill entrepreneurship among the youth, startup skill development incubator to mold youth power into technology power and to make this world worth living.
Earlier the GKU Vice Chancellor Col. Dr. B.S. Dhaliwal welcomed the delegates and guests apprizing them of the research and curriculum programs of GKU. The GKU Registrar Dr. J.S. Dhiman, highlighted that the conference revolved around computer science, electrical, electronics, mechanical, civil, communication Engineering, management, agriculture and environment for which delegations were held in separate sessions. He said that the future will witness grater roles of research in gene therapy, challenge of climate change, renewable and innovative health care.
The chief convener of the conference Dr. Vijay Laxmi said that all the presented papers will be published in high rating journals. Present among the galaxy of scientists were Dr. Jagpal Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor GKU, and Dean Directors and Heads of different Departments of GKU. The authors of winning research papers were awarded certificates and prizes.
