Government studying ideas to cut stress in military

New Delhi, July 25 (IANS) The government is studying recommendations on how to manage stress among young army officers, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said Friday.

The minister told the Lok Sabha that the government has ordered a study into the stress level encountered by the young officers.

The Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR), a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), undertook a study on "factors causing distress among young officers of Indian Army", he said.

He said it studied the level of distress among the young officers, the factors that create distress, and to suggest remedial measures to manage stress.

"DIPR submitted its report to the government in April," the minister said. "The recommendations are being analyzed by the government."

He said the DIPR had already developed a "Suicide Risk Assessment Test" to identify personnel at risk. "This has been handed over to the army."
