Chandigarh, September 25, 2017: Bharatiya Janata Party today said that the steep rise in number of farmers' suicides in the state would prove to the Congress' waterloo in the state.

BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh today said, "Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, trapped farmers of the state by promising loan waiver of entire outstanding against them but backtracked when the farmers voted the Congress to power. The farming community is feeling cheated as there is a steep rise in the number of suicides and is in no mood to forgive Capt Amarinder Singh or Manpreet Singh Badal."

Chugh said that the Notification issued in this regard recently was also a farce and farmers were not satisfied as the Congress instead of delivering what it promised was playing games with the farmers.

Claiming that the government had committed a violation of model code of conduct by issuing the notification while the poll process had already begun, Chugh said that even this could not save the Congress from the wrath of the farmers and other people of the state.

"Nobody is going to believe them now. The party which promised a waiver of entire Rs 90,000 crore barely managed to issue notification regarding waiver of only Rs 10,000 crores," he said adding that while Capt Amarinder, his government and the Congress were claiming 'success' the banks were even now not ready to execute the government orders due to want of any 'adjustment'.

Chugh said that the farmers of the state were not only stressed due to the false promises made none other than the Chief Minister himself, but were feeling insulted as banks, following their procedure, were declaring them defaulters and had at some places even put their pictures on public notice boards.

"This is a government which was claiming success for doing nothing at all. This is the first government whose graph has gone down so fast," he said adding that the result of Gurdaspur bye-poll would teach a befitting lesson to Congress leaders who thought that politics was about making false promises to gain power.
