Dharamsala, December 23, 2013: It is a sunny day in Himachal, but the cold wave can even be felt in the sunshine and its intensity is expected after sun set today. Shimla, Manali, Chamba, Dalhousie Upper Mecleodganj and Chail received first snowfall of the season yesterday, while the lower reaches were drenched by widespread rain, bringing mercury down, as the cold wave further intensified in several parts of North India.

In Himachal, many interior roads are being restored, which were blocked following snowfall.
The tribal district Lahaul-Spiti has been cut off by road connectivity with rest of the world after heavy snowfall on Rohtang Pass. In Uttarakhand, while higher reaches of Garhwal and Kumaon regions received snowfall, heavy rain lashed the plains including Dehradun and Haridwar.
Badrinath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Roopkund, Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers in Chamoli district and Chakrata and Mussoorie in Dehradun district received the first snowfall of the season. Dense fog also engulfed the plains of Northern region, affecting air and rail traffic.
