Himachal Pradesh Governor stresses for developing patriotism among children

Shimla, November 6, 2015: Governor Acharya Devvrat underlined the need to develop a sense of patriotism and dedication towards the nation in the children and added that this spirit of love for country could only help the nation progress. He was addressing the children in the prize distribution function of the State level Painting Competition on Energy Conservation organized by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd at Rajbhawan here today.

The competition was held under the National Campaign on Energy Conservation of Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India.

The Governor urged the teachers to inspire children by narrating stories of great people and nations where citizens accorded prime importance to the welfare, growth and development of the nation. He said that children should develop sensitivity towards the needy and under-privileged people of the society and come forward to help them. He said that unless children were taught values like discipline, patriotism, sensitivity towards those in need, they could not become good citizens.

He said that young minds were impressionable and it was the responsibility of teachers to inculcate good moral values in children. He urged the teachers to make children aware about the harmful effects of drugs and sensitise them towards issues like environment protection and selfless service towards society.

Acharya Devvrat urged the children to come forward and educate their families, neighbourhoods and society about the importance of energy efficiency. He said that energy played vital role in the development of nation and it was the responsibility of every citizen to conserve every bit of it.

He lauded the efforts of SJVNL and its contribution towards the society through various welfare activities especially the cause of energy conservation. He also congratulated the children for exhibiting extraordinary talent and reaching the final level of the competition which would enable them to compete at national level. He said that they should learn to work hard in life and face all challenges with sincerity, dedication and determination with complete focus on their goal to be successful in life.

The Governor distributed cash prizes of Rs 20,000, Rs 15000, Rs 10,000 to winners who were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition besides 10 Consolation prizes of Rs 2500 each in each category. He also honoured Members of Jury and Block Education Officers for their contribution in holding the event successfully.

Shri A. S Bindra Director Finance spoke about the achievements of SJVNL.

Shri Nandlal Sharma, Director Personal SJVNL welcomed the Governor and briefed about the main objectives of the event.

Shri   A K Mukherjee, General Manager  SJVNL proposed vote of thanks.

A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the children on the occasion.

About 100 children from various schools of the state participated in the competition.

Members of Jury Prof. Him Chatterjee and Dr. Pawan Chauhan from H P University and Shri M. L. Azad, Additional Director Elementary Education, Students, staff and officers of SJVNL were present on the occasion.
