HOCKEY: Chandigarh XI b Gwalior XI

Ludhiana, October 25, 2012: In the opening match of day five of All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Champion Trophy 2012, Chandigarh XI defeated Gwalior XI by a big margin of 4-1. Chandigarh XI is coached by Olympian Rajinder Singh.

The first goal of the match was scored by Navneet Kaur of Chandigarh XI in 10th minute of the match. The Chandigarh team took lead by 2-0 in 18th minute when Pooja Rani scored another field goal. First goal for Gwalior XI was scored by Kavita Vidyarthi in 25th minute of the match. But it was Navneet Kaur of Chandigarh XI which scored another goal in 43rd minute, followed by another goal in 43rd minute of the match. SSP Jalandhar Rural was the chief guest on the occasion while punjabi singer and actor Amrinder Gill was the guest of honour.

Second and last match of the day was played between Rail Coach Factory and Central Railway Mumbai. Central Railway took an early lead in 2nd minute of the match when Pratibha Sawant scored first goal for her team in 2nd minute of the match. Another goal was scored by Vandana Kataria of the same team in 29th minute of the match.

By half time, Central Railways was leading by 2-0.

Cabinet Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra was the chief guest on the occasion, while MLA Balwinder Singh Bains, former MP Gurcharan Singh Galib, former minister Jagdish Singh Garcha and Hira Singh Gabria were the guests of honour.

In the second and last match of the day, Central Railway Mumbai defeated Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala by 4-1. Central Railway took an early lead in 2nd minute of the match when Pratibha Sawant scored first goal for her team in 2nd minute of the match. Another goal was scored by Vandana Kataria of the same team in 29th minute of the match. By half time, Central Railways was leading by 2-0.

Vandana Kataria striked once again in 47th minute when she converted a penelty corner into goal. RCF Kapurthala scored its only goal in 57th minute when Kirandeep Kaur scored with the help of a penelty stroke. The final goal of the match was scored by Saundraya of Central Railway in 67th minute of the match. In the end, it was Central Railway Mumbai which drubbed RCF Kapurthala by 4-1.

2 pm: Chandigarh XI vs RCF Kapurthala. (Women league match).

4 pm: Punjab National Bank vs BPCL (first semi final of men section).

6 pm: Gwalior XI vs Central Railway Mumbai (women league match).

8 pm: Indian Oil vs Namdhari XI (Second semi final of men section).
