Hope of life for an elderly couple at DMCH

Ludhiana, April 19, 2014: The expert team of obstetrics and neonatology doctors at Dayanand medical College and hospital continue to deliver high quality of health care services to the society and gave hope of life to elderly couple by saving their ½ kilo baby.

Born on December 6, 2013 after only 6 months of gestation, Angel (name changed) was one of the twins born out of IVF conceived twin pregnancy. A 54 years old lady with chronic Hypertention who conceived with great difficulty with latest IVF techniques. According to Dr. Suman Puri, Professor , Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology,the patient had come to DMC&H with great hopes as one of the twins expired before birth.She was taken up for immediate delivery and delivered a baby weighing 520 gms.

Angel began her life in an incubator at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)at DMCH, receiving food through a tube and breathing with CPAP(machine which helps in breathing). “The baby can now breathe her own and has been sent home with her parents.” Said DR Kamal Arora, DM Neonatologist, DMCH. “The Survival of these small babies is a tremendous accomplishment for the doctors and nurses who cared for her”, Dr Arora added. The grateful parents said that they have got to give everything to the medical team at DMCH as everybody thought that she was not going to survive at a birth weight as low as 520 gm.
