IDPD to represent at the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons

Ludhiana, December 1, 2014: Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) to represent at the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) Civil Society Forum (6 & 7 December) and the Vienna (Austria) Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons (8 & 9 December 2014). The ICAN is a global campaign coalition working to mobilise people in all countries to inspire and persuade their governments to address the humanitarian threat of nuclear weapons. The participant’s expertise and national experience will significantly contribute to the discussion at the Forum and Conference about the damage and risks of nuclear weapons.

Dr Arun Mitra – General Secretary IDPD will make presentation on the situation in South Asia in particular reference to the nuclear weapons with India and Pakistan in the light of tension between the two countries and active intervention in the region by the non state actors. It is worth mentioning here that just before the recently held  SAARC meet in Kathmandu a joint appeal was handed over to the Secretary General of SAARC by the IDPD, Pakistan Doctors for Peace and Development, Physicians for Social Responsibility Nepal, Physicians for Social Responsibility Bangladesh and Sri Lankan Doctors for Peace and Development
