Ferozepur, November 5, 2012:  The illegal mining of sand in the district, despite ban, is still going on and in this context, Makhu police has registered a case against two persons under section 379 IPC and Mining and Mineral Development and Regulation Act 1957.

Giving this information ASI Balwinder Singh said, some people in village Kili Bodla are doing the illegal mining of sand from their fields and they have been identified as Satnam Singh and Nachhatar Singh.

As per the sources, no arrest has so far been made.

On the other hand, the brick-kiln owners and labourers have come forward to agitate to take some decision as the construction work is held up because of non-availability of sand in the market.

One of the brick-kiln owner said, legal mining should not be hampered.  Let the culprits responsible for illegal mining be investigated and punished.  But those who have been working legally should be allowed to carry on with their activity.

Condemning the anti-mason and labourer policies of the government, hundreds of laborers demonstrated at Arya Samaj Chowk under the leadership of Sukhdev Singh.  The agitators said, “In the event of closure of work of daily-workers, they are in economic crisis and main cause is non-availability of sand as this material is the basic required for construction work”.

They demanded from the government to make a concrete policy of mining of sand so that the construction work in Punjab could start again.
