•  The decision of Punjab Government’s to transfer Rs 75 crore to second state technical university is strongly opposed; • We will fight at every step till the decision is rolled back: President Mulazam Front
Jalandhar, July 9, 2015: An indefinite strike has been started at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University from today. It has been initiated by PTU’s Mulazam Front in which all the teaching as well as non-teaching staff is involved at every step. During the strike, no work will be pursued in the premises. Not only the public dealing but also the admission process in the campus will be halted till the strike ends. This strike is against the decision of Punjab Government in which it is decided to transfer Rs 75 crore for the development of second state technical university in Bathinda. Mulazam Front has appealed to roll back the decision at the earliest, giving justice to the IKG-PTU’s employees and functioning on the whole.
The meeting regarding the strike was called upon today in the main campus here. Addressing the meeting, Mulazam Front’s President Kamlesh Kumar said that University has received a letter from Punjab Government two days back in which it was ordered for the transfer of Rs. 75 crore for the establishment of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University in Bathinda. He said that Mulazam Front is opposing the decision of second state technical University from very beginning. According to the Front’s facts, the issue was earlier too raised regarding the wastage of funds as there was no need to set up any other technical university in the state because due to the rising number of private universities, the admissions in technical education has become a major challenge. Due to the new university, the funds will be wasted and it will enhance the financial burden too.
President of the front as well other members protested that the decision for not establishing second state technical university was ignored and now the Government has kept its eye on IKG-PTU’s corpus fund too. They have appealed that there is still time left and Government should review its decision once again, else it should not keep its eye on our corpus fund and shall establish the second technical university from Government’s pocket only.
Further highlighting the need to roll back the decision taken, Vice-President Yadwinder Singh said, “ The corpus fund of IKG-PTU is the hard work of Univeristy’s employees and the efficient use of this fund is to strengthen the academic outputs rather than wasting it in setting up of second university. The strike will be continued till the decision is rolled back by the Government and there will be no work done by staff till then.” He further said that Government is taking this decision to benefit the Malwa belt but is forgetting that this will result into poor outputs for both IKG-PTU as well as so called another technical university under pipeline.
Front Mulazam has submitted the demand letter as well as announcement of strike letter to Registrar Dr. Amanpreet Singh. The demand copy has also been forwarded to Vice-Chancellor IAS Rakesh Verma, Secretary Technical Education and Industrial Training, via email. The front members too raised the slogans ‘Mulazam Ekta Zindabad’ in the university campus. During the meeting Dr Balkar Singh, patren of the front, Er Ekonkar Singh Johal, Paramjit Gill, Rajwinder Singh, Rishi Gupta, Rajinder Dogra, Kishore Luthra, Rakesh Bahadur were also condemn the decision of state Government.
