Guwahati: Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) welcomes the decision of the management of The Hills Times to implement the Majithia Wage Board Award for its employees. The English daily, published from Diphu (printed in Guwahati), becomes the third media group in northeast India to take the initiative to enhance the salary & other benefits for their employees under the wage board.
The Assam Tribune group had already implemented the wage board and the management of Niyamiya Barta has lately declared to implement the prescribed wage board for the benefit of its employees including journalists.
“We urge all media houses in the region to implement the wage board without delay. The managements must not linger on its implementation for more years. Otherwise, it would only degrade the print media as an institution slowly slipping down to the group of law-evaders in the country,” said a JFA statement endorsed by president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria.
