Junior World Boxing Champion Ms Mandeep Kaur Sandhu being honoured with Rs 1 Lakh Cash Award at Ludhiana on Wednesday.

Ludhiana, May 27, 2015: Junior World Boxing Champion Miss Mandeep Kaur Sandhu was today awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh by the Punjab Education Department at a function held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, here today. Punjab Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema was the chief guest on the occasion.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Advisor to CM Mr Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, Principal Secretary of Education Department Mr C Raul, Punjab School Education Board chairperson Mrs Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, DGSE Mr Pardeep Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal, Under Trainee IAS Mrs Syed Sehrish Asghar, DPI Mr Balvir Singh, DEO (Secondary) Mrs Paramjit Kaur Chahal, besides several others.

After winning the coveted title of Junior World Championship of Boxing held at Taipei (China), the boxer has made the country proud. On her return, she was honoured by Dr Cheema at Chandigarh on Monday and by Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal at Ludhiana yesterday.

A cheque of Rs 1 lakh was handed over to Mandeep Kaur Sandhu by Dr Daljit Singh Cheema at a function held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, here today. While speaking on the occasion, Dr Cheema said that the entire state as well as country is proud of her. He said that hailing from a tiny hamlet of Chakar, Mandeep has brought laurels for the country. He said that she is a student of Government Senior Secondary School, Chakar.

Dr Cheema said that the Punjab Government has also announced to sanction two wings (U-14 Girls and U-17 Boys) of Boxing for Government School of village Chakar. He informed that each wing would accommodate 13 boxers.
