Jalandhar, September 11, 2012:Once an out flow for the Monsoon season, Kala Sanghia Drain is pathetically seen polluted with garbage and dirty and intoxicated industrial waste water.

This drain is proving a threat to the environment and people residing in its surroundings. And, both the industries and the local municipal corporation are responsible for the present scenario.

Many representations have been given to cover this drain but all in vain due to the paucity funds. In the year 1997, Satluj Action Plan programme was chalked out but funds could not be used so far the reasons best known to the authorities concerned.

Foul smell emanates out of the drain. Even wild plants have developed on banks of the drain over the period. Residents of the area demand immediate cleanliness of the drain. They have also urged upon the Irrigation Minister, Punjab Janmeja Singh Shekhon and the Minister for Local Government, Punjab Bhagat Chuni Lal to take “personal interest” for sanctioning of funds for the proper cleanliness of the drain.

The Area MLA and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Krishan Dev Bhandari has been taking up the issue of cleanliness of Kala Sanghia Drain in the past. He should again take an initiative to get the drain clean at all costs in larger interest of people and the environment.
