KISAN GOSHTI ON CULTIVATION OF MAIZE CROP AT KVK SAMRALA

Ludhiana, June 29, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (PAU), Samrala, District Ludhiana organized “Kisan Goshti on Cultivation of Maize crop” on 29 June, 2017 under the guidance of Dr. S.C. Sharma, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK Samrala. The farmers were made aware regarding package of practices for efficient cultivation of maize crop. To make technical session more informative, lecture on different maize varieties, cultural practices, processing and marketing was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Gurjit Kaur Gill, Sr. Maize Breeder, PAU, Ludhiana. Mrs. Gill provided elaborative information of various techniques for processing of maize crop and its value addition. Regarding marketing of different maize products such as corn flour, sweet corn, baby corn etc. were also discussed to explore employment opportunities among the farmers. Dr. B.S. Gill, Sr. Seed Production Specialist highlighted techniques for cultivation of maize, water, weed & pest management.

On this occasion, Dr. S.C. Sharma appealed the farmers to grow PAU recommended maize varieties, use Bio-fertilizer and Trichograma card. He also requested the farmers to procure seed, bio-fertilizer etc. from KVK seed shop. SAC members, special invitees and progressive farmers encouraged other farmers to adopt maize crop for diversification. During the session farmers got motivated and interacted with experts for maize seed production at farmer level. Dr. Devinder Tiwari, Assistant Professor (Ext. Edu.) thanked all the participants and team of experts from PAU, Ludhiana.
