Ludhiana, March 25, 2017: Role of nutrition in maintaining good health and preventing numerous diseases is of immense importance, which is generally not very well understood by the general public, remarked Dr Rajoo Singh Chinna (Professor of Gastronenetrology and Dean Academics), who was invited by the Rotary Club, Ludhiana to enlighten their members about role of nutrition in health maintenance and disease prevention.

In his lecture, Dr Chhina, who has also held the esteemed position of Secretary of Nutritional Society of India, said a day is not so far when doctors will be more focused in preventing and curing diseases with expertise nutritional advice.
For the past few years, there has been a tremendous growth of packed and frozen foods in the market which people think easy to cook and preserve but such foods cannot match the nutritional value of natural fruits and vegetables,which contain a variety of nutrients including vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It is a well established fact that eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables each day can reduce the considerable amount of stress and risk of chronic diseases, and such food are called as functional foods.
The highlight of Dr Chhina’s lecture was on deficiency of ‘Vitamin D’ and ‘Calcium’ which is wide spread these days. Vitamin D is essential for strong bones, because it helps the body to use calcium from the diet. Dr Chhina strongly advised that it is very important for people to recognize and use those nutrients which will help them to have a healthy life style.
