Ludhiana, June 6, 2017: According to agroadvisory bulletin issued by PAU, Ludhiana today light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at isolated places during next 24 hours and at many places thereafter. Issuing Warning, the bulletin said that thunderstorm accompanied with squall likely at isolated places during next 24 hours and thunderstorm accompanied with squall and hail likely at isolated places during subsequent 48 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 35-40o C and 25-28oC, respectively. The maximum relative humidity is expected to remain between 26-58% and minimum between 13-31% during these days. As high wind speed coupled with thunderstorm is expected in coming days, farmers are advised to avoid spraying during windy days.

Prepare the rice field for nursery transplanting. Apply first irrigation to cotton crop 4 to 6 weeks after sowing. Stomp 30 EC @ 1 litre/acre dissolved in 200 litres of water can also be applied as post emergence after first irrigation to cotton. Eradicate the weeds like kanghi buti, peeli buti, puth kanda etc growing on cotton field bunds, waste lands, road side and irrigation channels/canals to avoid further spread of whitefly to cotton field. Whitefly also attacks other alternate host crops like brinjal, tomato, okra, moong, mash and guar. Regular surveillance should be done for timely management on these crops. To prevent the incidence of mealy bug on the crop, remove all the weeds growing around the crop fields.

Apply irrigations as per requirement tosummer moong, summer mash, sunflower and spring maizecrop. Control theweedsfrom thesugarcanecrop. To save the crop fromblack bug, spray the crop with 350 ml of Dursban/ Lethal/ Massban/Goldban 20 EC (Chloropyriphos) in 400 litres of water per acre.

Complete the harvesting of onion. During prevailing hot and dry weather, Protect cucurbits from downy mildew by spraying Indofil M-45/Kavach @ 300-600 g in 100-200 litres of water per acre at weekly interval. Under heavy disease risk situation, spray of Ridomil Gold @ 500 g or Aliette @ 600 g at 10 days interval. Tomato, brinjal, okra, chilli and cucurbitscrops need to be irrigated at 5-7 days intervals depending on soil and crop condition for the maximum development of fruits.Fruit borerattack intomatocrop can be checked by spraying 30 ml Fame 480 SL or 600 ml Carina 50 EC in 100 litres of water per acre. Observe waiting period of 3 days after the spray of Fame. Brinjal fruit and shoot borer attack can be checked by spraying 800 ml Quinalphos or 500 ml Triazophos or 100 Fenvalerate or 200 ml Cypermethrin or 160 ml Deltamethrin in 100-125 ml of water per acre.

Due to prevailing dry weather conditions, apply light and frequent irrigations to the trees bearing fruits. Ensure that the new plantation is protected with thatches. The mite may damage the fruit quality in pear and citrus, spray Fosmite @ 2.0 ml or Fenzaquin @ 1.5 ml or Rogor @ 1.33 ml per liter of water. Harvest the grapes, if ripened as early as possible.
