LOK ADALAT settles 488 cases, gives compensation over Rs 2.68 crore

Jalandhar, February 23, 2013: As many as 488 cases were settled in a day long Lok Adalat, organised at Jalandhar, Nakodar and Phillaur on Saturday, at all the Judicial Complexes.

Nine Benches were set up at District Courts Complex Jalandhar City, and two each Benches were set up at Nakodar and Phillaur.

A total of 657 matters of Motor Accident Claims, Civil, Criminal, revenue, matrimonial disputes and other patty cases were placed before the Benches and a total of 488 matters were settled by way of mutual understanding by the Lok Adalats.

Addressing litigants the District and Session Judge J. S. Kular, stressed the need for making use of the Lok Adalat concept in order to settle disputes. He said instead of f wasting their valuable time in various Courts alongwith their hardened money, they should adopt the means of Lok Adalat, where both the parties go back to their homes  with a smiling face. He made it clear that once the award passed by the Lok Adalat that is final once for all and there is no appeal after that, which saves time and money of both the parties.

Kular revealed that a total over sum of Rs 2.68 Crore was awarded and disbursed as compensation to the petitioners and victims in various pending cases.
