Ludhiana, September 24, 2013: The workers of Youth Akali Dal (YAD) led by Gurdeep Singh Gosha staged a protest here on Tuesday against the assault on a Sikh professor in US.
Protestors assembled at Clock Tower and lodged their protest. They said it was regretted to find that Prabhjot Singh, an assistant professor at Columbia University, was attacked last Saturday awhile taking a walk in the Harlem neighbourhood of Manhattan. The cause of attack was that professor reportedly looked familiar to Osama Bin Laden. Gosha and others strongly urged upon the Indian government to firmly take up the issue with the US government, so that recurrence of such incident should not take place in the future.
Further, Gosha said the incident was a matter of shame because of the fact that India had a Sikh Prime minister and the nation like US was still unaware about the identity of Sikhs.
Protestors were carrying placards such as “PM & Sonia Shame On You”. They also burnt an effigy of the Centre and the US as a mark of the protest. They were shouting slogans against the Centre and the United States as well.
