Chandigarh, October 19, 2012: The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir SIngh Badal, who also holds the Home portfolio, today announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for anyone giving information or assisting the police in any other manner that leads to the arrest of Nishan Singh, the prime accused in the Shruti abduction case.

Badal has also directed the state authorities to initiate any other legal proceedings against the main culprit or his accomplices.

In a statement here, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the government accorded the highest priority to the resolution of this case and to securing justice for the affected family. "We treat the honour of all girls and women in the state as an question of honour of our own family. Nobody will be allowed to play with it. We will make this case an example of how firmly we deal with such elements.  The state government is fully alive to its responsibility in the matter and no one, whoever it might be, would be allowed to get away with playing foul with law.

Sukhbir SIngh Badal who is personally monitoring the case today held a half an hour long meeting with the state DGP Sumedh Saini to update himself on the progress being made in the case. He has asked the DGP to keep him abreast of the developments in this case on a regular basis.
