Panchkula: Maruti Suzuki Indian National Autocross Championship 2016 kicked off on Saturday in Chandigarh at HUDA Grounds, Adjoining Shalimar Mall, Sector- 5 Panchkula. The three-day motorsport event from November 26-28 will witness an action packed adrenaline rush, thrilling experience of kicking joy and dust storms that every motor enthusiast seeks for. Over 250 auto enthusiasts are participating in this event from all across the country. The event is being facilitated by the largest motorsport club of the region, Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports (TCAS) along with Northern Motorsport, leading motorsport organization in North India. With an aim to push budding talent of the region, TCAS will also hold local championship rounds where winners will get trophies, certificates and cash prizes.
Introduced by Maruti Suzuki, the Indian National Autocross Championship 2016 is nation’s biggest small motorsports format where motorsport beginners are invited to test their skills. An autocross enthusiast doesn’t need to own a high end or a modified rally car, all they need is to have a car of any manufacturer and skill & will to take on the track. Autocross tests the drivers’ skills and vehicle handling rather than just the speed over specifically designed tracks. The combination of tight and twisty turn in surface creates a phenomenal experience for the motorsport enthusiasts.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vinay Pant, Assistant Vice President (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “As pioneers of motorsports in India, Maruti Suzuki has always championed the motorsports culture by introducing tough and gruelling rallies like Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya, Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm etc. in the most challenging terrains. We observed a need to reach out to the masses that are yet to realise their aspirations of participating in accessible, fun yet challenging motorsports contests. With Autocross we have brought motorsports within the reach of these aspirational enthusiasts over the years. The response here is really fascinating and I am confident Sadda Chandigarh will enjoy this exciting championship and great show of talent by rally enthusiasts.”
Autocross championships are conducted under the approval of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India and under the watchful eyes of appointed Safety Stewards. The strict adherence to rules and safety guidelines makes this one of the safest motorsports activities possible. The track is specially designed to limit the speed of the cars and in case of an untoward incident emergency services including a fully equipped Ambulance is available at all times.
Post the third round of the championship in Chandigarh from 26th to 28th November 2016 the event will extend to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and Jaipur with the grand finale culminating in Delhi-NCR. For city rounds registrations will be carried out at the time of event too at very minimal registration fee. The championship in 2016 will see the champions from southern India compete with champions from north India for the coveted national title. In addition to the two zones, there will be an additional round at Mumbai. Points of this round will count towards either the North or the South depending on the competitor's zone selection. The top 4 point holders of each zone from each class will be eligible to participate in a finale which will be held in Noida.
